We recommend an air purifier only when there is a reason
Not every house needs a UV light or an air purifier, and we will not sell one to a house that doesn’t. Often the fix is a cleaning and a filter that fits. We recommend a purifier when there is a reason we can point to: growth on the coil or in the drain pan that we can show you, several pets in the house, a lot of cooking, a musty smell that returns after the system is cleaned, or someone in the home who is sensitive to dust.
When we find something, you see it. One Delray Beach customer came to us after another company told her she had mold on her condenser; when she asked to see it, there wasn’t any. That is the opposite of how we work. Photos of what is inside your air handler come before any recommendation.

Signs your indoor air needs attention
The first sentence of each is what it usually means; the rest is what we do about it.
Musty smell when the AC turns on. Usually biological growth on the evaporator coil or in the drain pan, or a drain that is not draining. We clean it and clear the drain first; a UV light inside the air handler is what keeps it from coming back.
Growth in the air handler or drain pan. Common in South Florida, where the coil is wet most of the year. We find it on maintenance visits, clean it, and show you the before and after.
Dust comes back right after you clean. Check the filter first: wrong size, or not seated all the way, lets air go around it. Then the return and ductwork, which can pull in dust from the attic or closet.
Several pets in the house. Hair and dander load the filter fast and keep circulating. Better filtration plus a whole-house purifier is worth discussing.
Cooking smells that linger. A kitchen that is used hard puts odors and grease into the air the system recirculates. This is one of the cases where a whole-house purifier earns its place.
Old original ductwork. Ducts from the 1960s and 70s can leak, sweat, and collect debris. Sometimes the air quality fix is new ducts, not a gadget.

How we decide whether your home needs a UV light or purifier
Look first, then recommend. Most of this happens during a regular maintenance visit.
- Open the air handler and check the coil, blower, and drain pan for growth. You get photos of what we see.
- Check the filter: the right size, the right type, and seated so air cannot go around it.
- Clear the drain lines with a vacuum and run water down them to make sure they drain.
- Look at the return and the ductwork for leaks that pull in dust from the attic or closet.
- Ask about the house: pets, cooking, smoke, and anyone sensitive to dust.
- Recommend the smallest fix that solves it. If that is a UV light or purifier, it is mounted in the air handler or supply plenum, wired to run with the blower, and the system is checked before we leave.

Green UV light installed inside the air handler — Valencia Pointe, Boynton Beach (Sep 2026)
A week after a repair visit on this system, we came back to install a Green UV system inside the air handler, mounted on the blower housing and wired to run with the fan so the coil and drain pan get UV whenever air is moving. Bulb life and warranty terms depend on the model, and we go over them for your unit. Before leaving, the technician put gauges on the outdoor unit to confirm the system was running where it should.
Carbon-X purifier added with a new system — Boynton Beach (Jun 2026)
This homeowner replaced the whole system with us and added a Carbon-X whole-house purifier at the same time. The Carbon-X is mounted on the supply plenum above the new air handler, so every bit of air leaving the system passes it. It is a whole-house UV air purification system. Adding it during a replacement means one visit and no extra cutting into the ductwork later.
Original 1960s ducts replaced and a UV light added — condo (Nov 2024)
All the original ductwork in a condo built in the late 1960s was replaced, with changes to send more air to the rooms that were not getting enough. A UV light was added and wired to turn on and off with the air handler, to keep mold and mildew from growing inside the system.

Indoor air quality questions, answered
Do I need a UV light or air purifier?
Not always. If the coil and drain pan are clean, the filter fits, and nobody in the house is bothered by dust or odors, you may not need one. We recommend one when there is a reason we can show you, such as growth in the air handler, several pets, heavy cooking, or a musty smell that returns after cleaning.
What does a UV light in the air handler do?
It shines on the evaporator coil and drain pan, the wettest parts of the system, to keep mold and other biological growth from building up there. It is wired to run with the blower, so it is on whenever air is moving.
What is the difference between Green UV, Carbon-X, and REME HALO?
The Green UV system mounts inside the air handler and targets the coil and drain pan. The Carbon-X is a whole-house UV purification system mounted on the supply plenum, so the air leaving the system passes it. REME HALO is an in-duct purifier with a cell that is replaced periodically. We will tell you which one fits your system and why, or whether you need none of them.
Do these systems produce ozone?
If ozone is a concern for your household, ask us about the specific system you are considering and we will show you the manufacturer’s information.
How often does the UV bulb need to be replaced?
It depends on the model. We replace UV bulbs regularly, including on systems another company installed, and we check them during tune-ups.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. The UV lights and purifiers we install come with manufacturer warranties. Terms depend on the model, and we go over them with you before installing.
Can you add a purifier to my existing system?
Yes. The Green UV install in Valencia Pointe went into an existing air handler. If you are replacing your system anyway, adding a purifier at the same time saves a visit, as one Boynton Beach homeowner did in June 2026.
My AC smells musty. Is that mold?
Often it is growth on the coil or in the drain pan, or a drain that is backing up. We open the air handler and show you. The first fix is cleaning and clearing the drain; a UV light is what helps keep it from coming back.
Could my dust problem just be the filter?
Sometimes, yes. A filter that is the wrong size or not seated all the way lets air go around it. We check that first, before recommending anything you have to buy.
Do you clean the inside of the air handler?
Yes. Cleaning the coil, blower, and drain pan and vacuuming out the drain lines is part of our maintenance visits, and it is where most air quality problems are found.
